Battle’s Transportation/RHG Group Workers On Strike Over ULPS and Bad-Faith Bargaining

Workers at Battle’s Transportation/RHG Group will go on strike today over unfair labor practices committed by the company throughout contract negotiations which began in April 2025. Contract negotiations have limped along at a snail’s pace in part because of the company’s representative constant and deliberate refusal to bargain in good faith. Battle’s/RHG workers are among the lowest paid transit workers in the region and workers are disgusted that the company has so far refused to offer a wage increase above the rate of inflation.

“For months, Battle’s/RHG has tried to intimidate workers and bully them into accepting an unfair contract but our members have not backed down. ATU Local 689 will not tolerate a company that commits ULPs with impunity and harasses and threatens Union Shop Stewards,” said ATU Local 689 President Raymond Jackson. “Workers are ready to fight as long as it takes!”

“When companies treat their workers like dirt and disrespect them at the bargaining table, there is only one course of action. Once again, ATU Local 689 members are demonstrating that they are ready, united, and willing to fight back to demand a fair contract,” said ATU International President John Costa. “Our more than 200,000 members across the United States and Canada stand with our Battle’s/RHG members. Our Union uses a strike only as a last resort since we don’t want to abandon our riders who depend on us. But the Company has left us with no other option. We will stand together in solidarity until these workers get the contract they deserve.”

Battle’s Transportation/RHG Group currently holds contracts to provide service for several Federal agencies and entities including: DIA, DHS, GAO, Department of Commerce, Armed Forces Retirement Home, DEA, as well as a contract with D.C. Public schools.
