WeDriveU Workers Near Unanimously Vote To Ratify Contract Win
The new contract merges all three WeDriveU MetroAccess properties under a single contract and comes after workers voted nearly unanimously to authorize a possible strike.
This past weekend, MetroAccess WeDriveU workers at the Central Avenue, Hubbard Road, and Industrial Avenue locations, overwhelmingly ratified a new contract with 97% voting in favor after a year of intricate and complex negotiations. In particular, this new contract guarantees strong economic terms for workers. Importantly, this contract also unified all workers under a master contract.
“Our MetroAccess members came together not once, but twice and showed their strength and solidarity to win a strong master contract that treats them with dignity and respects their expertise,” said ATU Local 689 President Raymond Jackson. “First, workers showed near unanimously that if they weren’t treated with respect, they would be willing to strike. Then, again, workers stood together to ratify a strong contract proposal.”
The agreement reached between the Union and the company was reached last week just one day after workers at the Central Avenue and Hubbard Road voted to authorize a strike if necessary to win a contract. The three year contract guarantees strong wage increases and robust retirement security for workers, as well ensures that workers across all three MetroAccess locations are treated equally by the company.
