Amalgamated Transit Union and Locals 689, 1300, 1764, and 1777 Endorse Maryland Governor Wes Moore & Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller for Re-Election

Recognizing his track record of strong leadership and unwavering commitment to working families, social justice, and economic prosperity for the people of Maryland, the Amalgamated Transit Union and Locals 689-Washington, DC, 1300-Baltimore, MD, 1764-Baltimore, MD, and 1777-Gaithersburg, MD, are proudly endorsing the re-election of Governor Wes Moore and Lt. Governor Aruna Miller.

“The ATU endorsed Wes Moore in 2022 when he was elected Governor, and he has been a champion of our members who move the people of Maryland. A proven leader, he has been a strong advocate working families, and the state of the Maryland,” said ATU International President John Costa. “Governor Moore stepped up for public transit, fighting for increased transit funding to modernize our buses, Metro, and light rail, and to put more transit service out there for those who rely on public transportation. His Administration has worked to build an economy that leaves no one behind. The ATU is proud to endorse Governor Wes Moore and Lt. Governor Aruna Miller again.”

Since being elected, Governor Moore pushed for more and better transit by expanding Maryland’s Transportation Trust Fund. When ATU Local 689 members at Martz Gold Line in Hyattsville, MD went on strike for 6 days in April 2025, Governor Moore backed our members to help them win a strong contract.

“Whether it is standing up for frontline transit workers or fighting to expand access to reliable transit, Wes Moore has been there and stood with Local 689,” said President/Business Agent Raymond Jackson of ATU Local 689. “The DMV faces challenges including finding sustainable funding for WMATA. Governor Moore and Lt. Governor Miller have been committed to the DMV Moves initiative and they are the right choice to lead our state.”

He knows that we can’t just rely on current service levels, we need to grow to meet the needs of the future.” said President/Business Agent Michael McMillan of ATU Local 1300. “Whether it was rethinking and restructuring Baltimore’s role in the Maryland Transit Administration or supporting policies to keep transit workers safe, the Moore-Miller team has had our backs.”

“Governor Moore has a proven track record of supporting public transit and fighting for the rights of working families across the state of Maryland. He recognizes the importance of providing safe and accessible transportation that our members provide for people with disabilities and seniors,” said President/Business Agent Ranelle Cole of ATU Local 1764, representing MTA Mobility and BWI Airport Shuttle workers. “Our members will be mobilizing to ensure we send Governor Moore and Lt. Governor Miller back to Annapolis.”

“For more than a century, the ATU has been a champion for the dedicated and hardworking people of the State of Maryland–I’m honored to have their support as we continue building a more transit-oriented home for all Marylanders,” said Governor Moore. “Since taking office, I’ve stood alongside ATU members during labor disputes, signed the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) Reform Act, placed the last track on the Purple Line, and cut the ribbon on the Howard Street Tunnel Project–but there is still work to be done. With the ATU alongside us in this fight, we will continue to do what it takes to ensure we are building more reliable, convenient, and affordable transportation options in Maryland.”
