Mission Statement

• We hold it as a sacred principle that trade unionists,, above all others, shall set a good example as good and faithful workers, performing their duties to their employer with honor to themselves as well as to their organization.
• We hold a reduction of hours for a day's work increases the intelligence and happiness of the laborer and also increases the demands for labor and the price of a day's work.
• We hold a liberal education of the young to be a pre-eminent preparation for life's social and industrial work, and that the principles and purposes of organized labor demand free and compulsory education.
• We have resolved to encourage and stimulate our members to take a lively interest in the civil affairs of their country in order that they can vote intelligently and effectively for the interests of the working people thereby advancing the cause of Organized Labor.

Metro Contract Negotiations

On July 22, 2011 Judge Messitte rendered a 38-page opinion supporting the Motion to Confirm filed by Local 689 for the wages and pension portion of the contract awarded to us by the Board of Arbitrators on November 4, 2011. The judge upheld the arbitrators' award granting a 3% wage increase for each of three years- July 1 2009, 2010 and 2011 while making no change to the status of our pension language.
