We already know that the President-Elect has called for $1 trillion in infrastructure spending over the next 10 years. However, the majority of this spending will be done through tax credits to private contractors. Making profits for private contractors the priority of infrastructure spending only benefits the contractors and leaves taxpayers holding the bag. This type of spending will have a disastrous effect on workers and the public who depend on these projects.
It is our union’s expectation that Chao will make sure that the advancement of the working and middle class is at the heart of the infrastructure spending planned by the Trump administration. We are very concerned that she will not share this priority and we plan to watch her performance and hold her accountable for every action she takes that effect us and the working people of America.
