The union is not involved in the selection of uniforms picked by WMATA, but we are happy that we were able to be involved in the process of making sure that the uniform transition is cost effective for all of those involved. The Union succeeded in increasing the number of new uniforms issued from 2 to 5 and all station managers will have their insignia patches added for free.
Many of us remember “back in the day” when Station Managers wore beige pants, reddish jackets, and a reddish color hat. We’ve come a long way since then! Station managers won’t start wearing the shirts until 2015, and anyone that goes back to trains or buses can still wear blue shirts if they do. We have also been informed that if you wear the yellow shirts you will not have to wear the vest unless you go on the roadway. We will see!
